Frequently Asked Questions

This Questions and Answers section covers questions we are asked most frequently and may be of help to anyone approaching Puzzle Press for the first time. If you have a question not answered below, please don't hesitate to email and ask, via: enquiries@puzzlepress.co.uk or use the online contact form.

Do you supply themed puzzles?

Yes, we not only supply puzzles to your choice of theme, but are happy to produce puzzles with a theme which is specific to your organisation. We will also produce in colour, if required, to match your existing publication.

Can you supply puzzles for my company's internal newsletter, with a competition relevant to my company?

Yes, we specialise in bespoke puzzles. Please talk to us further on this, as every job varies according to client requirements.

I just want one puzzle to use in a brochure. It has to have a single word answer, as I'm going to use it for a competition. Can you help?

Yes, it's more than likely that we can help, although we would need details of the target audience and service or product, so that we can tailor the puzzle to your needs.

What is the usual size of your puzzles?

It depends on the type of puzzle, but a typical crossword grid in a newspaper is 13x13 or 15x15 squares - the size of the squares depends on how much room is allocated for the overall puzzle, bearing in mind that anything too small will be difficult for a solver to fill. Other puzzles may need to be tailored to fit your particular page. We are also quite able to provide crosswords of truly mammoth proportions, as well as other very large puzzles of many different types. We really don't have many size limitations. However, we prefer to discuss overall sizes with you once we gain an idea as to what you require. If you aren't sure, don't worry, we can give some advice.

Do you produce puzzles in varying degrees of difficulty?

Yes, we can supply anything from a puzzle suitable for a small child to one of perplexing difficulty! However, our most commonly requested puzzles are those of the 'standard' difficulty level, such as you would find in a British newspaper or in a puzzle magazine.

If I order a large number of puzzles for a book, will they all come at once?

If you want them all at once, then yes; but we are also happy to supply them in stages, if that makes life easier. Please note that we also supply in 'ready-to-go' format, so that you can send the work directly to the publisher, without having to set it. We will handle any proof-reading (via independent proof-readers) prior to your receiving the work and produce the finished article to your specifications. Please ask us for further details on this subject, as every job varies according to what is required.

You mention verifying and proof-reading. Do you only proof-read puzzles?

No, we are happy to handle proof-reading of many different types of publication, including books. Our proof-readers are qualified and fully tested to our exacting standards, so you can be certain of the highest quality.

Is there a minimum or maximum amount of puzzles I have to order at any one time?

Absolutely not.

What are your deadlines between receiving an order for puzzles and actually supplying the work?

That very much depends on what you want: a batch of fully-tailored, very detailed puzzles will naturally take a little longer to produce than one standard puzzle, and quantity also has a bearing on timings, so please let us know if you have a tight deadline.

How do you supply the puzzles?

We can send them to you by email, or via our server, or on a CD disk by post (email is the most popular method for small batches: for books, etc, we would prefer to transmit server to server).

How can I get further information on issues not covered above?

Email us at enquiries@puzzlepress.co.uk and we will be happy to respond to your email, or to telephone you (please let us know your name and telephone number in the email) to discuss your particular needs, without any obligation.

From time to time we will add to the questions and answers above, if we feel there are sufficiently similar enquiries to warrant this, in an effort to make the Q&A section more helpful.
